The company
York
Central Hospital, located in Canadas fastest growing community, first opened their
doors in 1963. Since that time, they have been providing innovative and quality health
care to their patients. At the same time, York has been able to remain at the cutting edge
of technology, becoming the first computerized hospital in Ontario, as well as being the
first hospital to use a compact CT Scanner.
The challenge
As a major health care institution, York Central
Hospital has hundreds of detailed policy documents, covering every aspect
of their operation from food services to surgery. Every one of these
policies is on a regular review cycle, and gets changed from time to
time based on comments and requirements of their staff. YCH recognized
the need for organizing their policies digitally, and saw that web technologies
could offer them a cost-effective way to execute their plans.
The solution
With York Central Hospitals goal in mind, we developed a comprehensive
document management system. This system, deployed at various locations
throughout the hospital, allows staff to find, view and print policy
documents on the system, and to electronically record comments and suggestions
about the policies. For management of the system, applications were
developed that allow YCH administrators to add, remove and modify policies,
read user comments, and review any upcoming policy revisions that are
scheduled.
