Gore Mutual Insurance Company

Client: Gore Mutual Insurance Company
Industry: Financial Services, insurance
Project: Private broker's extranet

The company
Gore Mutual is Canada's oldest federally licensed mutual property and casualty insurance company and has been providing service to Canadians for over 160 years. Their head office is located in Cambridge, Ontario, and they have regional offices in Cambridge, Ottawa and Vancouver.

The challenge
The Gore, as they are called, have always been known for their selection of innovative products and quality service. When they approached us in 1997, they saw the Internet as a method of extending their business to customers in a new way, and wanted to provide customers and brokers with an unprecedented level of value.

To do this, they needed a set of tools that could be used by their brokers, end-customers (policyholders), and for their in-house content administrators. At the same time, everything that was developed had to support their well-established brand, and be scalable so that new features could be seamlessly added over time.

The solution
We launched the first version of the elegantly designed Gore web site in 1998, with emphasis being placed on providing policyholders with easy-to-find information. Tools that were launched originally included a broker locator search engine and an online claims submission engine. Since that time, the site has constantly grown and new features are always being added. Visitors to the site can now use the database-driven job posting board, and view dynamically updated news.

In an effort to decrease printing, courier and communications costs and to increase Gore’s value with their brokers, we launched a Private Broker Extranet in the third quarter, 2000. With this application, brokers are downloading important information and conducting business in the context of a private, password-protected digital forum.

For content management purposes, a comprehensive set of tools has been developed that allow users at head office to maintain the areas of the site that are important to them. For instance, staff members in human resources can manage the listings on the job board, while people dealing with brokers can maintain those sections.
